By now it’s a well-known fact: coffee boasts many properties that are beneficial for our organism. But did you know that it is also used frequently in cosmetics? In fact, its characteristics mean it is ideal for making body scrubs, but also eye contour creams and face masks.
Today we’d like to suggest a recipe for making a perfect homemade coffee lip balm.
The cosmetic properties of coffee
One of the main actions caffeine performs on the body is slimming. This is why it is used in creams and ointments designed specifically to treat the unsightly effects of cellulite.
But coffee is also a cure-all for the hair: on one hand it adds shine and on the other it stimulates the circulation, rejuvenating the scalp and reducing free radicals.
And that’s not all. Many coffee-based dyes have proven to be effective for naturally covering white hair. Give them a try and see for yourself!
How to make homemade coffee lip balm
We expect a good lip balm to have a softening and stimulating action on the skin. For the recipe we will use some essential oils, which can easily be sourced online. Let’s see how to make it.
Ingredients
- Olive oil and coffee infusion, 30 g
- Refined cocoa butter, 15 g
- Shea butter, 15 g
- Beeswax flakes, 7 g
- 10 drops of clove essential oil.
- 1-2 ml coffee flavoured oil.
- 120 g vegetable oil (almond, olive, jojoba, coconut).
Method
First, prepare the olive oil and coffee infusion. Put 3 tablespoons of coffee into a coffee pot and make it the usual way. Once it’s ready, take the coffee grounds and infuse them in 120 g of olive oil. Cook in a bain-marie in a small pot for 15 minutes over a low heat. Turn the heat off and filter the infusion.
Meanwhile, use the microwave to melt the beeswax with the cocoa butter. Alternatively, you can melt it in a bain-marie. Next, add the shea butter and repeat the operation. Now add a pinch of salt, stir and add the infusion prepared earlier.
Add the clove essential oil and the coffee flavoured oil one drop at a time. Leave everything to cool completely. Ideally, you could find some small metal tins in which to pour the mixture and leave it to set.
And with the addition of a coloured ribbon, they can also become cute gifts for you to give to your friends.
